Shoes For The Sunshine

Summer is finally here, and it’s time to get your summer wardrobe ready. One of the most essential parts of your summer wardrobe is your shoes. With the heat it’s possible that your feet could swell, often you won’t want to be wearing socks, you could be going to the beach and walking on sand, so you need footwear which is not only fashionable but comfy and practical for the summer. So, which ones are the best ones to go for?

Patent-Leather Mules

You can’t go wrong with a classy pair of patent leather sandals and if you can find a pair with a practical heel - 1.5 inches is a good height, and a grass-friendly block shape is even better. Practical but still totally sexy is just what you want when you’re looking for shoes for a summer wedding paired with a dress or for a beer garden or Sunday brunch, thrown on to elevate a cropped jean.

Clogs

There is a clog trend happening this summer. Don’t worry; they are not the wooden ones that you find in Amsterdam; there’s a slight compromise. Have a look at these MIA sandals which are the perfect combination of a fisherman sandal with a wooden clog.

Birkenstocks

If you’ve been wearing Birkenstocks for years, then you’re probably very comfortable in them and attached to them. However, it might be time for a new pair, and this limited edition crossover strap style comes in mauve in the USA and a whitish grey in Europe. The strap style makes these shoes look a little dressier than the Arizona two strap model that has been making a comeback over the past few summers, and the colour should go with most outfits.

T-Strap Sandals

There is a rope/braided shoe trend for spring 2019 which is hot! For those who need reliable ankle support, even in the summer, the trendy slide won’t do. However, T-strap sandals are perfect for this, and still, look elegant and dressy if you want to go for flats. They’re also fabulous for showing off your sexy feet. This type of footwear is super chic and perfect for the hot summer months. They go with everything too from shorts, mini, midi, maxi skirts and dresses. Get a pedi and make sure your feet look perfect so that you can show them off.

Trainers

Forget about all sassy heels and sexy pumps, whether it’s Puma, Chuck Taylor Converse, or Adidas Originals, wear something comfortable and functional. They’re not only comfy, but they go with everything - dresses, shorts, jeans and skirts, you can end up wearing them to death, so it’s good to get a couple of pairs so that none get too scuffed up. Trainers are going to be your best friends during everyday street walks during the summer and you can create plenty looks with them also. Try them with casual denim shorts, a solid colour top, and pale yellow blazer, or you can achieve a model-off-duty look by teaming wedge sneakers with black leather shorts and a grey T-shirt. Then one of the best looks of all is pairing your white trainers with a sweet looking sundress.

Flip-flops

While flip-flops are neither shoes or sandals, they are meant to be in the footwear family. They are must-haves for the summer months because they are light, practical and you can wear them anywhere with anything. They can add a summery feel to any outfit. They even look good with workwear, and they can quickly get you in a summer mood.

Ballerina Flats

Ballerinas are the perfect way to give your feet a little rest. Ballerina shoes come in plenty of styles, colours, shapes and prints. So, you need to make sure to find your favourites and if you’re not sure then stick to the classics. Again they go with little summer dresses, shorts or jeans and so handy to just stick in your bag if you want to swap into them after a long day in heels.

Wedges

Wedges are perfect for petite girls, who want to add a bit of height. They look really stylish and make you look taller too. Plus, you can wear them with just about anything you want. Plus if you do have to walk across grass or sand, then there's no chance of your heel getting stuck in.

Woven Sandals

Woven shoes are not only comfortable and lightweight, but with the proper weave material, they can keep swollen feet comfortable as the material allows for the footwear to expand enhancing the comfort for the wearer. Woven shoes are also on trend, and they come in a variety of patterns, and with a variety of materials and while people mainly wear them casually, some styles can work well with something a bit more dressy.

Remember to look after your feet during the summer, wearing sandals and walking around in barefoot can be harsh on your feet so make sure you exfoliate your feet regularly with an exfoliator or create your own by mixing caster sugar and baby oil. Keep your feet clean and dry, by ensuring that you dry your feet thoroughly after a shower or bath and when you wash your feet, use a pumice stone to rub away the rough areas. It’s also a good idea to use a lotion or moisturiser every night before bedtime. For very dry feet, apply Vaseline and then put socks on overnight to help the moisturisation process work.
